Winter is Right Around the Corner. Is Your Garage Door Ready?

It is hard to believe but winter is right around the corner and with that brings the cold and snow. Is your garage ready? Here are some tips.

Annual Tune Ups are an important preventive maintenance that should be done every year. What better time than before the cold sets in. During your appointment, we will tighten all screws, nuts, and bolts, reset the limits on your motor, inspect and oil all moving parts and check all safety functions. We can fix any minor issues before they become a bigger and more expensive problem down the road.

You will also want to ensure that your weather seal is installed and working properly. Over time, your garage door weather seal will start to age preventing it from working as designed. Cold air will find its way through the gaps, making your garage much colder. Some of the warning signs to look for are visible distortions in the seal, such as color changes or cracks, the seal no longer bounces back leaving a gap between the garage door and floor, water, leaves and/or debris are entering your closed garage, or pieces of weather seal break off when touched. If you see any of these signs, it is time to replace your weather seal.

Garage door insulation is the best way to keep your garage warmer this winter and can be added to some existing garage doors. This process takes a few hours and requires the garage door to be taken down for the insulation to be put in and then the door needs to be re-installed. When complete, your garage will be much warmer.

If you have an older garage door, you may want to consider having a new garage door installed. There are many insulated options to fit the style you are looking for.
